Naruto and Black Clover’s Studio Has Been Sitting on the Next Solo Leveling for 2 Years
After giving Bleach a complete overhaul with Thousand Year Blood War, Studio Pierrot has since set its sights on Black Clover, which, after five long years, is finally returning with a new season and an all-new look. Season 2 of Black Clover also recently unveiled a stunning new trailer at Anime Expo 2026, and perceptions of Studio Pierrot and what they’re capable of are already shifting even before Black Clover’s October 2026 premiere. Naturally, the hope is that Boruto will also eventually make its much-anticipated return with a similar high-quality production for Two Blue Vortex. That said, if Studio Pierrot is looking for its next big hit, there’s one series in line ahead of Boruto, and it could even become the next webtoon anime sensation like Solo Leveling.
It’s Been Two Years Without An Update On Studio Pierrot’s Latna Saga Anime

With Fall 2026 just around the corner, it will soon have been two whole years since Studio Pierrot first announced it would be adapting the popular isekai webtoon, Latna Saga: Survival of a Sword King in a Fantasy World, into an anime. The initial announcement was made back on October 31, 2024, only a few months after Studio Pierrot and Red Dog Culture House, the studio behind the webtoon in question, established a partnership. At the time, it was also reported that the Latna Saga anime would kick off production in 2024 itself, though there have been no updates on the project since, be it a key visual, release date, any form of marketing, or even any confirmation that the anime is still on the way. As part of their partnership, Studio Pierrot and RDCH had agreed to form a joint production committee in Japan for three years, of which there’s only one more year to go. It’s disappointing that the anime is taking this long, as is the lack of updates, especially given Latna Saga’s popularity. Hopefully, this means Latna Saga’s anime will get an update in the coming year, as the series has immense potential to become another one of Pierrot’s biggest anime franchises, especially with the studio’s modern, high-quality production.
Latna Saga Will Be The New Isekai Anime Sensation
Over the last few years, it’s become increasingly clear that the isekai genre as a whole is growing stale and oversaturated. This fact has also been pointed out directly by major publishers like Kadokawa, who have gone as far as to state it could be putting the anime industry as a whole at risk. That said, in the midst of this debate, Chinese donghua like Lord of Mysteries and Korean isekai manhwa like Latna Saga present the opportunity to revive the genre with new, refreshing stories. Admittedly, isekai webtoon anime adaptations have let fans down in the past, and The Beginning After the End is an infamous recent example. Much like Latna Saga, The Beginning After the End was similarly a very popular manhwa franchise with a story and characters that had the potential for greatness, but the anime barely did the series any justice. However, with a studio as well established as Studio Pierrot behind it, Latna Saga certainly has more of a chance to succeed where The Beginning After the End failed.

As far as the manhwa itself goes, Latna Saga does take a while to establish itself, its world, and its characters, and its story also takes a while to get off the ground. However, the ride until then is by no means dull. Ryu Hanbin’s origins and the beginning of his journey is as gritty as you’d imagine with him being stuck in essentially the tutorial area for over two decades. His story starts out as one of perseverance, one that has proven popular in series like Black Clover and even Solo Leveling.
At the same time, Hanbin also has shades of a typical overpowered main character, trying to hide his true strength. This makes for quite a few instantly gratifying fights early on in the series, which will once again appeal to fans of Solo Leveling and the like. There’s also the typical grind to level up and a grand overarching plot that determines the fate of the world, together with an excellent, endearing cast of supporting characters, which could all see Latna Saga become a huge hit when Studio Pierrot eventually decides to get the project out of the basement.
