Chris Pratt Praises Epic New War Movie Releasing This Weekend As “Braveheart For Americans”
Movie and TV star Chris Pratt took to social media to heap overwhelming praise on the new war film Young Washington, which is now in theaters as the United States marks its semiquincentennial. After helming such movies as I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe and Jesus Revolution, Jon Erwin directed Young Washington and co-wrote the script with Tom Provost and Diederik Hoogstraten. The story centers on George Washington’s early life before becoming the first President of the United States. On the day of its theatrical release, Pratt shared a positive review of Young Washington on X, saying he was “blown away” and that the movie is “incredible.” The actor went so far as to compare it to a certain iconic Scottish war movie—”Like Braveheart for Americans”—adding that Young Washington is a great way to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday on this 4th of July weekend.
He also praised the director and gave a huge shout-out to William Franklyn-Miller, who plays Washington. Regarding Franklyn-Miller, Pratt said, “Remember the name! A star is born!”

Pratt included a video of himself that he filmed while driving home from a screening of Young Washington. He continued making comparisons to other movies, including The Revenant and Pride & Prejudice. The actor also acknowledged Franklyn-Miller’s acting abilities again and made a bold declaration that “very soon, everyone in the world will know his name.” Earlier this year, Pratt voiced Mario in the hugely successful film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which earned more than $1 billion at the box office and will be available to stream on Peacock beginning July 30. The animated sequel is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2026 so far. Pratt is best known for multiple roles on both the big and small screens, most notably Parks and Recreation, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Jurassic World. He is also the star of Prime Video’s The Terminal List, which returns for its second season on October 21. Over the years, he’s earned awards and nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Saturn Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Franklyn-Miller’s co-stars in Young Washington are Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, Joel Smallbone, Mia Rodgers, Jonno Davies, Michael Benz, John Foss, Clement Toyon and Leo Hanna.
The film is produced by Wonder Project, which made Prime Video’s House of David and Nate Bargatze’s recent comedy The Breadwinner. The distributor is Angel Studios, the same company behind Sound of Freedom, David, Animal Farm, and The Chosen. During its opening weekend, Young Washington is projected to gross $15 million and debut in third place behind Minions & Monsters and Toy Story 5. So far, the war drama is getting mixed-to-positive reviews, with a 60% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Young Washington is now playing in theaters.
